Lincoln Highway BUY-WAY Yard Sale

A REGIONAL EVENT -

Thursday - Saturday, August 5, 6, & 7, 2010.

In an effort to serve many out-of-state shoppers and collectors who like to shop both the Route 127 Sale and the BUY-WAY, the OLHHC (Ohio Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor) has chosen the "first full weekend (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) in August" to be the criteria for establishing future years' BUY-WAY Yard Sale dates.

Just about anything you want or need will be sitting along the road for you to purchase "on the cheap" during the sixth annual Lincoln Highway BUY-WAY Yard Sale to be held across Ohio - and now adjacent states. The first year saw over 250 yard sales across Ohio's portion of the historic Lincoln Highway, America's first coast-to-coast paved road. The sale population increased substantially each year, and parts of Indiana and Illinois soon joined in, with West Virginia now setting out goods as well.

An official Traveler's Guide has been created that includes a map of Ohio's Lincoln Highway alignments along with listings of many yard sales and community events along the way. This free guide will be available at Convention & Visitors Bureaus and Chambers along the way in mid-July.

BUY-WAY Yard Sale participants in any state may list their yard sale information on the byway website, (http://www.historicbyway.com) which shoppers can then print out and use to navigate their shopping.

The success of this event is credited largely to sponsors and supporters who lend their names and financial support to the event. Anything that is donated would be of great help to this cause. Food that is raised will be donated to the West Ohio Food Bank.

Sentimental Journey B-17 Flying Fortress

Monday, August 23 - Wednesday, August 25, 2010.
Monday: 12:00 noon arrival and on display until 6:00 p.m.
Tuesday & Wednesday: 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Location: Allen County Regional Airport, 700 Airport Dr., Lima.

If you or your kids have never seen a B-17 "Flying Fortress" up close, or would like to see the most authentically restored B-17 in the world, come to see the Commemorative Air Force Arizona Wing's B-17 "Sentimental Journey" flying in on Monday, August 23 by the Arizona Wing of the Commemorative Air Force.

"Sentimental Journey" will be on public display at the airport.
B-17 "Sentimental Journey" Tours: $5.00, ages 13 - Adult; $3.00, children age 5 - 12. Free for children under 5.
Flights are available for a set price of $425 per person for the waist section and $600 per person in the nose section.

The "Sentimental Journey" is a flying museum and memorial to the men who flew and crewed these airplanes as well as the men and women who built and delivered them more than 60 years ago, and to the crews that did not return. The B-17 Flyng Fortress was famous for daylight bombing raids over Germany during World War II, and could sustain such significant battle damage that the aircraft lived up to its name, the Flying Fortress. Out of 12,731 built, there are only about 10 restored and airworthy examples remaining. For the airplane enthusiast, it's an opportunity to have a museum come to the visitor instead of the traditional other way around.
