The Blue Caboose is owned and managed by the Lima-Allen County Convention & Visitors Bureau and staffed by nearly 30 volunteers. Citywide Pride Clean-up Month

May 1, 8, 15, 22, 2010

Locations: TBA

Dumpsters will be adopted by individual neighborhood associations and other community groups who will request a certain weekend.

NOT ACCEPTED at dumpsters: No appliances, large furniture, chemical wastes (household oil, paint and chemical products), car batteries, tree limbs, brush or shrubbery (take to mulching site at the Collett St. recreation area.)

Appliances and large furniture should be left on the curb for regular pick-up days.

There will be a limit of 10 tires per customer, accepted at 900 S. Collett St.

Household hazardous wastes along with car batteries will be accepted on Household Hazardous Waste Day, May 8, 2010 at the Allen County Fairgrounds from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Please bring a driver's license or utility bill to the dumpster site for proof of residency.

Garlic Mustard is a biennial plant from Europe that is a prolific seeder.  Seeds can lay dormant for 10 years. Garlic Mustard secretes chemicals into the soil which are toxic to our native spring wildflowers.  If left unchecked, Garlic Mustard can soon dominate the forest floor and destroy the ecology of our woodlands in the Park District.

The dates listed are for garlic mustard pulls at the parks.  Call to sign up.  You will be called with details about each work session.

Dulcimers in the Cornfields Festival

This annual festival features nationally-known headliners on the autoharp, hammered dulcimer and mountain dulcimer, along with a wealth of local talent.

Lima Astronomical Society Observing Schedule

May 7, 2010.

The Schoonover Observatory in Schoonover Park (670 N. Jefferson St., Lima) will be open at 8:00 p.m. on the first Friday of every month.  This coincides with the regular monthly meetings of the Lima Astronomical Society.

The Observatory will also be open from time to time for special events related to sky phenomena taking place at the time.

On regular meeting nights, there will be a short business meeting at 8:00 p.m. followed at 8:30 p.m. by some sort of presentation lasting approximately an hour.  Observations will commence thereafter.

Everyone is welcome to attend the Society's regular meetings and any special events.
You are encouraged to come to the observatory and look through the 14-inch Celestron telescope housed at that facility.  Members of the LimaAstronomical Society will be on hand to operate the telescope and answer your questions.

4-Wheel Jamboree Nationals

This is the 25th annual O'Reilly Auto Parts Spring 4-Wheel Jamboree Nationals.

The Allen County Fairgrounds will crawl with more than 2,000 4-wheel drive vehicles from the U.S. and Canada for a powerhouse off-road weekend.

The 4-Wheel Jamboree is a family event geared toward the truck enthusiast.  The event is made up of participants (4x4 enthusiasts who come to display their truck for the weekend and compete in the racing events and show), spectators, vendors and sponsors.

Each year segments of the Jamboree are filmed and have been televised on ESPN 2, Verses (V's,), The Outdoor Channel, Discover Channel, TLC and Spike TV.  These events are also routinely covered in national enthusiast magazines and websites.

In that most idealized period of 20th century America, the Eisenhower years of the 50's, the Pazinski family has a lot going on in their cramped Buffalo apartment.  The youngest of the bunch, 12-year-old Rudy, is a smart, wise-cracking kid who's starting to question family values and the Roman Catholic Church.  Rudy goes up against the ruler-wielding Sister Clarissa and announces that instead of being confirmed, he'd rather shop around for a more "fun" religion.  A warm and hilarious look at family, growing up and God.

Buckeyes in the Arts - An Inspector Calls

Bluffton Arts & Crafts Festival

Memorial Day Parade

Monday, May 31, 2010.
10:00 a.m.
Location: Downtown Lima.

Staging will begin at Northland from 8:30 - 9:00 a.m., and parade will come down Main Street.

This parade will honor all Veterans from Desert Storm through Afganistan.

The Veterans Council will host the Laying of Wreath Ceremony at Allen County Memorial Hall following the parade - approximately 12:00 noon.  Anyone can lay a wreath.
